DraftKings Daily Fantasy Golf Helper: TOUR Championship

As the PGA Tour season comes to an end, who are the best options on DraftKings at the TOUR Championship?

Daily fantasy golf requires a new approach for each and every event.

The course and field change week after week, making no two contests alike. That means you need to refine your approach for each PGA Tour event to try to find golfers who are primed to excel for your daily fantasy golf lineups.

Each week, we have a course primer, and our daily fantasy golf projections and lineup builder can help you get started, but these golfers stand out specifically on DraftKings for the TOUR Championship.

This Week's Course

The PGA Tour season finale features the top 30 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings and includes, not surprisingly, almost all of the best players in the world. East Lake Golf Course is a 7,307-yard par 70 with bermuda grass greens. With a third of the field guaranteed sizable finishing bonuses, birdie makers stand out specifically this week. DraftKings lineups will need strong overall tee to green players, specifically those who can knock it close and give themselves realistic birdie chances and, of course, those that can sink the putts when they get those opportunities. Normally, the focus is on long-term form to try to minimize variance and tune out the white noise that comes with so many golfers playing in different events against varying levels of competition. This week, however, focusing on the last 12 rounds only creates something close to an apples-to-apples comparison, as most of these golfers have played in the past couple events together as part of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Key Stats

Key Stats for the TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Course
Strokes Gained: Tee to Green
Strokes Gained: Approach
Birdies or Better Gained
Greens In Regulation Gained
Strokes Gained: Putting (Bermuda)

Now, onto the picks.

All stats are from Fantasy National Golf Club and are for golfers in the field over the last 12 rounds, except Strokes Gained: Putting (Bermuda), which will be for the last 50 rounds (none of the prior three tournaments had bermudagrass greens).

High Priced Stud

Justin Rose (DraftKings Price $11,400 | PaddyPower Win Odds 15/2) - The newly crowned World number-one has finished T10 or better in the four trips to this event in the last five years. Rose is 6th in birdies or better gained and 11th in strokes gained: tee to green. He has proven time and again this season that even if he has a bad round he can find his way to the top of the leaderboard by the end of the weekend, and in a small field Rose will never be out of contention.

Brooks Koepka ($10,000 | 12) - With so few golfers in the field, it may pay to forego the very top guys and start lineups with Koepka, who broke out this season with two major championship victories and proved that his A-game may just be the best in the world. He is 2nd in his last 12 rounds in strokes gained: tee to green, 11th in strokes gained: approach, and 12th in strokes gained: putting on bermuda.

Mid Priced Options

Tony Finau ($8,600 | 18) - Finau earned the final spot on the Ryder Cup and now looks to cap off his tremendous year with a strong finish at East Lake. He is fourth in both strokes gained: tee to green and greens in regulation gained, and fifth in birdies or better gained. With top-10 finishes in three of the four majors and each of the three preceding playoff events, Finau has established himself as one of the most reliable mid-range golfers in difficult fields.

Bryson DeChambeau ($8,400 | 16) - With two wins in the first two events of the FedEx Cup playoffs, DeChambeau is unsurprisingly first in total strokes gained, birdies or better gained, and greens in regulation gained. His confidence, of which he is rarely lacking, is at an all-time high as he looks to establish himself among the PGA Tour's elite.

Low Priced Options

Jon Rahm ($7,700 | 22) - This is a bizarro pick, as Rahm has been very poor over the last 12 rounds and has finished just T24-T43-MC in the first three legs of the FedEx Cup playoffs. He is just 21st in strokes gained: tee to green and 22nd in approach, but the value here is just too good to pass up. Rahm is the seventh-ranked player in the World and has been priced in the $9-$10k range all season. It was just a few short weeks ago he finished T4 at the PGA Championship, so he has the chops to compete in elite fields.

Billy Horschel ($7,300 | 30) - Though ranked just 37th in strokes gained: tee to green on Tour this season, Horschel has been on absolute fire lately and comes in ranked first in strokes gained: tee to green. He is doing most of his damage with the irons, as he also ranks first in strokes gained approach and second in greens in regulation gained. The one weak link has been the putter, but he has a good long-term track record on bermuda and is 10th over his last 50 rounds on that surface.

Bargain Basement

Aaron Wise ($6,200 | 66) - Wise's last 13 events have been either tremendous or terrible, with finishes of 16-69-5-MC-6-MC-MC-MC-MC-MC-1-2-MC. When he putts well, he can climb to the top of the leaderboard, but if the short stick is off, Wise has dead last in his range of outcomes. Luckily this week, dead last is still only 30th, and he has opportunities all weekend to pile up birdies. He is fifth in greens in regulation gained and ninth in strokes gained: putting on bermuda. And to boot, his win at the Byron Nelson came on bermuda greens.
