Best of the Best
Dustin Johnson (FanDuel Price: $11,500 | FanDuel Sportsbook Win Odds: 15/2) - Every golfer is in play this week with the field this small, but Johnson ranks second in approach and greens in regulation gained over his past 36 rounds, and we know he can take advantage of par 5s. He's struggled here, however, finishing 15th, 3rd, and 14th.
Rickie Fowler ($11,100 | 17/2) - Fowler is back to his solid all-around statistical play and has finished top-six here in four straight years, including a win a year ago. Fowler finished 4th at the Shriners and 16th at the OHL in his past two events, as well.
Tiger Woods ($11,000 | 17/2) - Woods is more than familiar with this course, as he's the host here. He's top five in approach strokes gained, par 5 strokes gained, and greens in regulation gained over the past 36 rounds and finished ninth here last year.
Bryson DeChambeau ($10,700 | 19/2) - DeChambeau could be fairly low owned despite his pedigree. He just doesn't yet have the name recognition of the studs he's tiered with, but he ranks third in greens in regulation gained. He hasn't played here yet but has the game to compete in this chill atmosphere.
Mid-Range Options
Hideki Matsuyama ($10,200 | 23/1) - Matsuyama won here in 2017 and followed it up with a T5 last year. He's first in approach over the past 36 rounds and third in par 5 strokes gained. In this mid-range option, he stands out as a legitimate winner, despite some low odds. That makes him a strong tournament option.
Jason Day ($10,000 | 16/1) - Day hasn't played here for three years after finishing fifth in 2015 but has finished 5th at the CJ CUP and 11th at the HSBC, proving he can still get it done in tough fields of late. Day is more of a short-form stud, ranking fourth in greens in regulation gained over the past eight rounds.
Tony Finau ($9,700 | 16/1) - Finau ranks second in par 5 scoring and is always a high-upside play with five par 5s on the layout. Finau's past three events have yielded a 2nd, a 36th, and a 16th. He hasn't played here before.
Low-Priced Picks
Xander Schauffele ($8,600 | 18/1) - Xander's ceiling is a win no matter how tough the field is, and he just won at the WGC-HSBC, so that keeps him in contention at this price. He is first in par 5 scoring over the past 8 rounds and seventh over the past 36. He's a course debutant worth a gamble at his price.
Gary Woodland ($8,500 | 30/1) - Woodland ranks first in par 5 scoring over the past 36 and is eighth in approach and greens in regulation gained, too. He's finished 5th, 2nd, 10th, and 41st in his past four events and hasn't played here before.
Alexander Noren ($8,100 | 30/1) - Noren is worth a sniff, as he leads the field in greens in regulations gained over the past eight rounds but sits 16th in approach, 17th on par 5s, and 15th in greens in regulation gained over the past 36. It's really just a roll of the dice that he converts the greens in regulation into birdies to score well enough at a near minimum salary.
