Matt Carpenter, 3B, St. Louis Cardinals

Carlos Rodon has pitched to a fairly unspectacular 3.98 ERA, including a 21-24 record, so far in his young career. However, despite the fairly average results, he's been dominant against left-handed hitters. Rodon has held left-handed batters to a .271 wOBA in his career. This includes a 26.1% strikeout rate, 29.9% fly-ball rate, and 26.9% hard-hit rate.

Matt Carpenter has had his own struggles against left-handed pitching. He has posted a career 112 wRC+ against them (140 mark against right-handed pitching). This includes a 20.5% strikeout rate and a mere 33.0% hard-hit rate (39.6% hard-hit rate against right-handed pitching).

When you think of pitchers who dominate left-handed hitting, Rodon certainly isn't the first guy that comes to mind. However, he should probably get more respect in this type of matchup, leaving Carpenter in a less than desirable spot tonight.
