4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 5/18/18

Stacking can be a controversial topic in many daily fantasy sports, but you can count baseball as a glaring exception. Here, it's universal.

Using multiple players on the same team on a given day presents you with the opportunity to double dip. If one of your players hits an RBI double, there's a good chance he drove in another one of your guys. When you get the points for both the run and the RBI, you'll be climbing the leaderboards fast.

Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.

Now, let's get to the stacks.

Oakland Athletics

Last night, the Oakland Athletics were an intriguing stack against Aaron Sanchez, and they sure didn't disappoint, piling up 10 runs with dingers from Khris Davis, Matt Olson, and Matt Chapman. Chances are, if you rolled with Oakland last night you were also rolling in the money.

Well, it turns out Oakland might be shooting a sequel tonight, as they get another enticing matchup, this time against extreme fly-ball pitcher Marco Estrada. Our friend Estrada has only mustered a 5.11 SIERA, 18.1% strikeout rate and 8.0% walk rate this season, and his ground-ball rate (24.5%) is the lowest among qualified pitchers.

Estrada has historically shown reverse-splits, with weaker numbers against righties, and sure enough he's allowing a 38.0% hard-hit rate against them this season. That gives a boost to our righty bats, but considering his poor overall numbers, that shouldn't scare us off Oakland's top left-handed sticks.

Best of all, not only do the Athletics boast a strong matchup, but they remain cheap across the board, so it won't be difficult to grab whichever four you want. Davis ($3,300), Olson ($3,000), and Chapman ($2,800) are all strong bets to go yard again, and remain underpriced for their upside.

Olson started the year off slow, but his 52.5% hard-hit rate and .376 expected weighted on-base average (xwOBA) always suggested it was only a matter of time before he would get things going. He's now hit three home runs in the last four games.

Matt Joyce ($2,800) remains an affordable number-two hitter, boasting a career .350 wOBA and .205 isolated power (ISO) against righties. Jed Lowrie ($3,500) continues to rock impressive 2018 marks with a 39.4% hard-hit rate to go with a .401 wOBA. Marcus Semien ($3,200) lacks the punch of the other guys, but you can't go wrong with the leadoff man to fill the shallow shortstop position.

If you really want to go cheap, don't be afraid to throw Dustin Fowler ($2,000) in the mix. Fowler may hit low in the order, but he's shown exciting power/speed talent in the minors and owns a promising 37.5% hard-hit rate through 21 plate appearances. At the minimum price, he might be the key to unlocking that last big bat you want to squeeze into your lineup.
