3 MLB Prop Bets to Target on 6/8/18

In a showdown with Jacob deGrom and the Mets, Aaron Judge could have a rough go of it on Friday. Which other player props are worth a look tonight?

Prop betting odds can be useful in daily fantasy sports to help gauge the potential performance of a player on any given night in the MLB. Likewise, the same principles can be applied in the opposite direction -- by using our fantasy projections and models to help make more informed prop bets.

Using the odds available at Bovada Sportsbook, here are three prop bets available tonight that are good plays based on our daily MLB game projections.

Please note that Vegas lines and our game projections may change throughout the day after this article is published.

New York Yankees at New York Mets

Aaron Judge UNDER 2.5 Runs, Hits, and RBI (-180)

The subway series in New York should garner a lot of betting interest, and one matchup that is particularly intriguing is Aaron Judge going up against Jacob deGrom.

Even with Judge owning a .424 wOBA and .313 isolated power against right-handers this season, deGrom has had success against righty hitters as well. He is holding them to a .218 wOBA across 140 total batters faced in 2018. In this clash of New York City titans, our models are siding with deGrom, projecting Judge for just 2.31 runs, hits, and RBI.

St. Louis Cardinals at Cincinnati Reds

Jose Martinez OVER 2 Runs, Hits, and RBI (-135)

Jose Martinez has been very successful at the plate this season, and a matchup with right-hander Matt Harvey could pay off in a prop bet from Bovada. Martinez is on fire in June, batting 9-for-18 (.500) with a home run, four RBI, and four runs scored.

Against right-handed pitching, Martinez is averaging a run, hit, or RBI every 1.83 plate appearances. He has been equally good against lefties, too, with a .387 wOBA, so no matter who the Cincinnati Reds throw at him, our models project Martinez for 2.97 runs, hits, and RBI.

Chicago White Sox at Boston Red Sox

J.D. Martinez OVER 2.5 Runs, Hits, and RBI (-105)

Our Matchup Heat Map has the Boston Red Sox projected for a 4.98 implied run total on Friday, and there is a good chance that J.D. Martinez is a big part of that against the Chicago White Sox and starter Dylan Covey.

Martinez has destroyed right-handed pitching this season with a .451 wOBA across 201 plate appearances. He is also averaging a run, hit, or RBI every 1.45 plate appearances against right-handers. Our models are projecting Martinez for 4.48 plate appearances and 3.14 runs, hits, and RBI on Friday.
