4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 5/14/19

Excluding a massive 6.08 implied total for the Houston Astros, who will almost certainly be one of the most popular stacks, tonight's 12-game slate isn't littered with high totals given the plethora of strong arms taking the mound. That limits the overall number of appealing stacking options for such a large slate, but we'll dig into some alternatives if you want to differentiate from the Astros -- although you'll definitely want some exposure to them, too.

Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.

Premium members can use our stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. Now, let's get to the stacks.

St. Louis Cardinals

Before discussing the Astros, let's take a look at the St. Louis Cardinals, who will hopefully go lower-owned based on the name value of their opponent, Mike Foltynewicz.

After missing most of April recovering from an elbow issue, Foltynewicz has been a shell of his former self through three starts. That's obviously a small sample, but the glaring red flag has been his sizable drop in velocity, which has sapped him of his effectiveness, leading to an alarming 5.66 SIERA and 13.2% strikeout rate. In fact, even with a slight dip in velocity toward the end of last season, he saw a decline in punchouts, and now he's essentially missing a full two miles per hour off his fastball.

Add in a healthy dose of hard contact (41.7%) and fly balls (53.6%), and barring a dramatic improvement in velocity, we could see Foltynewciz continue his struggles against the Cardinals.

The top half of the lineup is pricey, but Paul Goldschmidt ($4,000), Paul DeJong ($4,200), and Marcell Ozuna ($4,300) are your best bets to knock one out, and even though Matt Carpenter ($3,500) hasn't performed as well this year, he'll have the platoon advantage and is still showing an encouraging 41.7% hard-hit rate and 50.0% fly-ball rate.

If you're looking for some cheaper sticks, the bottom of the order isn't lacking in hard contact, either, with Yadier Molina ($3,000), Dexter Fowler ($2,900), and Kolten Wong ($3,100) all posting hard-hit rates of 37% or better against right-handed pitching, with the latter two also batting lefty.
