3 Under-the-Radar MLB FanDuel Plays for 6/17/19

When being contrarian in daily fantasy sports, there's a fine line between taking a calculated risk and being reckless. But differentiating your lineups from everyone else is the name of the game if you plan on taking down one of those highly lucrative DFS tournaments. Whether it's because of Vegas totals, other options at a given position, or some gem you've found that everyone is overlooking, we can always find potential under-owned plays if we look hard enough.

Here are three such players to consider branching out for on FanDuel's main slate

Lance Lynn, P, Texas Rangers

FanDuel Price: $9,300

Will pitching at one of the better hitter's parks on the slate deter people from rostering Lance Lynn tonight?

With a 12-game slate tonight, there are plenty of options and a few aces on the mound, some might not look at Lynn as an option tonight. He comes in above $9K and is carrying a 25.4% strikeout rate this season, which is the fourth-highest on the slate, not including Mike Clevinger and his 12 innings pitched.

Despite not being considered an "ace" in the grand scheme of things, Lynn has been amazing this season and is on a bit of a hot streak right now. He comes in with seven or more strikeouts in six of his last seven starts, while allowing three or fewer earned runs in each of those seven. He is up against the Cleveland Indians, who come in with an implied run total set at 4.98, which should also help keep his ownership lower tonight since that is the fourth highest on the slate.

Eric Hosmer, 1B, San Diego Padres

FanDuel Price: $3,000

The San Diego Padres are at home tonight with a modest 4.29 implied run total combined with the fact we have a larger slate, they should be one of the lower owned teams.

With this game being in the best pitcher's park on the slate, we should see most DFS players shy away from it considering the other options available tonight. That is great news if you are looking for lower owned players, one of which should be Eric Hosmer, who comes in with a much improved .346 wOBA, .184 ISO, and 23.3% home-run-to-fly-ball rate versus right-handed pitchers this season.

Hosmer got off to a slow start this season but that has since turned around and now has hits in eight of his last nine games with three doubles and 12 RBI in that span. He is up against Jhoulys Chacin, who is making his first start off the IL and is carrying a 6.60 xFIP, 50.0% hard-hit rate, and a 38.8% fly-ball rate against lefty hitters this season.

Domingo Santana, OF, Seattle Mariners

FanDuel Price: $3,400

The Seattle Mariners lineup took a big hit with Edwin Encarnacion being traded away, and that could keep people away from rostering them in DFS.

With a big power hitter leaving the Mariners lineup, combined with the fact they have taken a sharp turn south after their hot start, the ownership on their players should be considerably lower moving forward. Searching and nailing that lower ownership can be huge in tournaments, especially if that player has home run upside and he doesn't need to be in a full stack.

Queue Domingo Santana, who comes in with a very powerful .286 ISO, 34.1% hard-hit rate, and a 31.3% home-run-to-fly-ball rate. If he can get the ball in the air versus lefty pitchers, it has a good chance of going over the wall, providing massive fantasy points.

It helps that Santana is up against Danny Duffy, who has a 4.91 xFIP and is allowing a 39.5% fly-ball rate to right-handed pitchers this season. The Mariners might not be an amazing stack overall, but Santana provides plenty of home run potential at a very reasonable price tag.
