FanDuel Daily Fantasy Baseball Helper: Monday 6/17/19

Alex Verdugo has moved up in the order with Corey Seager on the injured list, and the Los Angeles Dodgers get a plus matchup Monday night. Which other players should we consider in MLB DFS?

The beauty of daily fantasy baseball is that the top targets are different each and every day. Whether it's the right-handed catcher who destroys left-handed pitching or the mid-range hurler facing a depleted lineup, you're not going to find yourself using the same assets time after time.

While this breaks up the monotony, it can make it hard to decide which players are primed to succeed on a given day. We can help bridge that gap.

In addition to our custom optimal lineups, you can check out our batting and pitching heat maps, which show the pieces in the best spot to succeed on that slate. Put on the finishing touches with our games and lineups page to see who's hitting where and what the weather looks like, and you'll have yourself a snazzy-looking team to put up some big point totals.

If you need help getting started on that trek, here are some of the top options on the board today. We'll be focusing exclusively on the main slate.

Pitchers to Target

High-Priced Pitcher

Zack Wheeler ($9,200 on FanDuel): All of the higher-salaried arms on this slate come with at least one major red flag, so you should be looking to spend down in cash games (more on that in a second). But for tournaments, Zack Wheeler's salary may not fully account for the upside he carries.

Wheeler's matchup is tricky, which is why we don't want to go here in cash games. But Wheeler consistently works deep in games, giving him plenty of wiggle room even when he has mis-steps. Wheeler has hit the 100-pitch mark in 10 of 14 starts this year, and he has gone 110 or more three times. These elevated pitch counts haven't always come with success -- Wheeler's ERA is 4.87, after all -- but 3.91 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) shows there may be some positive regression in store. Wheeler's not an option for cash games, but with a high-strikeout night in his range of outcomes, this is somewhere we can turn for tournaments.
