4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 8/23/19

The Tampa Bay Rays have an excellent matchup against Ty Blach on Friday and most of their bats come in on the cheap.

With Friday's slate bringing us 13 games to sift through and arguably no one team standing head and shoulders above the rest, we should see a solid spread of ownership amongst tonight's top stacks.

Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.

Premium members can use our stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.

Now, let's get to the stacks.

Tampa Bay Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays get top billing in this space for the second straight night, but who doesn't like stacking against the Baltimore Orioles?

This time the Rays get struggling left-hander Ty Blach, who hasn't exactly impressed for either the Orioles or Giants this season.

In four appearances (including two starts with Baltimore), Blach has been crushed all four times, earning him a wretched 12.06 ERA and 2.30 WHIP over 15.2 innings. Maybe we should give him the benefit of the doubt over such a small sample, but none of the underlying numbers are encouraging, between a 6.52 xFIP, 16.1% strikeout rate, 12.4% walk rate, and 51.7% hard-hit rate.

Furthermore, a quick glance at his work in Triple-A this year won't inspire any confidence, either. Across 91.0 innings with the Giants' Triple-A affiliate, he posted a 5.43 xFIP and 15.7% strikeout rate.

Not surprisingly, given all of the above, season-long projections on FanGraphs all give Blach a rest-of-the-season ERA above 5.00.

Add the sorry Baltimore bullpen into the mix, and we have the Rays getting a 6.01 implied total at Camden Yards tonight.

Much like yesterday, they're particularly appealing because of their low salaries, with only Tommy Pham ($3,900) and Austin Meadows ($3,400) priced about $3k tonight. Matt Duffy ($2,400) is batting leadoff and is joined by fellow righties like Jesus Aguilar ($2,700), Willy Adames ($2,500), Michael Brosseau ($2,300), and Mike Zunino ($2,000), giving you an array of options for a cheap stack.

And given the ineptitude of both Blach and the bullpen, the left-handed Meadows is still worth "paying up for" at his modest price point, too. He's producing a 45.7% hard-hit rate and 41.5% fly-ball rate in same-sided matchups this season.
