Tigers complete trade with Braves for Cameron Maybin

The Detroit Tigers acquired outfielder Cameron Maybin and cash considerations from the Atlanta Braves for pitchers Ian Krol and Gabe Speier.

What It Means:

This was a cost-cutting deal for the Braves as the move saves them approximately $6 million. The trade is a bit of a homecoming for Maybin. The Tigers drafted him with the 10th overall pick in the 2005 amateur draft before trading him to the Miami Marlins in 2008 as part of the Miguel Cabrera deal.

Maybin hit .267/.327/.370 with 10 homers, 59 RBI and 23 steals over 555 plate appearances this season. These numbers don't jump off the page, but many of them are career bests for Maybin. His 0.04 nERD this season ranks 209th. Krol pitched 28 innings in relief for the Tigers this season, posting a 4.68 xFIP. The 20-year-old Speier finished with a 2.86 ERA in 44 innings of relief for the Tigers' Single-A affiliate this season.
