Seattle finalizes Edwin Diaz trade to the New York Mets
The Seattle Mariners traded pitcher Edwin Diaz and second baseman Robinson Cano to the New York Mets in exchange for a five-player package headlined by outfielder Jay Bruce.
The Mariners reluctantly traded their All-Star closer but desperately wanted to unload the $120M still owed to Cano. Diaz will take over ninth-inning duties for New York and will be under their control for four more seasons.
Diaz saved an MLB-best 57 games in 2018 while posting a 1.96 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, and a 15.2 K/9 rate in 73 1/3 innings pitched.
