Andrew McCutchen leading off for Phillies to open 2019

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Andrew McCutchen will open the season as the club's leadoff hitter, manager Gabe Kapler confirmed Wednesday.

What It Means:

Kapler added that Cesar Hernandez, the Phillies' primary leadoff man last season, will likely hit sixth or seventh. Entering his age-32 season, McCutchen should have plenty of scoring opportunities hitting ahead of Jean Segura, Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins, and J.T. Realmuto. He signed a 3-year, $50 million contract in December that includes a $15 million club option for 2022.

numberFire's models expect McCutchen to bat .262 with 23 home runs, 66 RBI, 77 runs scored, and 14 steals across 595 plate appearances in 2019.
