Addison Russell

Addison Russell making season debut Wednesday for Cubs

The Chicago Cubs called up Addison Russell from Triple-A Iowa.

What It Means:

Russell is in the starting lineup on Wednesday versus right-hander Jose Urena and the Miami Marlins. He's taking the roster spot of Ben Zobrist, who is going on the restricted list due to personal reasons. Russell recently completed a 40-game suspension for domestic abuse and violence. The 25-year-old infielder is expected to see time at second base while Javier Baez holds down the everyday job at shortstop. David Bote is moving to third base Wednesday while Kris Bryant shifts to right field and Jason Heyward mans center. Albert Almora is on the bench.

Russell slashed .250/.317/.340 with 5 home runs, 38 RBI, 52 runs scored, and 4 steals across 465 plate appearances last season.
