Carlos Gonzalez designated for assignment by Indians
The Cleveland Indians designated outfielder Carlos Gonzalez for assignment.
What It Means:
Gonzalez accepted a minor league contract with Cleveland in mid-March after failing to garner much interest on the free agent market. The 33-year-old will may have to settle for another minor league deal if he wants to keep playing. Oscar Mercado figures to remain a fixture in the outfield moving forward.
Gonzalez was batting just .210/.282/.276 with 2 homers, 1 double, 7 RBI, and 13 runs scored over 117 plate appearances for Cleveland.
