Max Scherzer (back) ruled out for this weekend by Washington
Washington Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer (back) will not start Sunday against the Atlanta Braves but is optimistic he can return shortly after that.
Scherzer is currently on the IL with a back injury and was hopeful he could return this weekend. He has been throwing off flat ground this week and is expected to toss a bullpen session this weekend. Scherzer could return to the rotation by late next week. No word on who will take the mound on Sunday for Washington.
Scherzer has posted a 2.30 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and 35.1% strikeout percentage this season.
