Darren O'Day (hamstring) cleared for rehab games for Baltimore

Baltimore Orioles reliever Darren O'Day (hamstring) is scheduled to make a rehab appearance at Double-A Bowie on Friday.

What It Means:

O'Day threw a 25-pitch simulated game on Tuesday and didn't suffer any setbacks, so he will now see how his hamstring responds against live hitters in Double-A. It's likely that he only needs two or three rehab appearances in the minors before being ready to return to Baltimore's bullpen. Look for O'Day -- and his 3.15 ERA this season -- to be activated by the end of the weekend or Monday.

O'Day has been as consistent as they come since joining the Orioles in 2012, and this season has been his worst, which speaks to how good he's been. He owns a 3.82 xFIP and a 28.74 strikeout percentage (league average is 21.01 percent) in 20 innings pitched. Our models project him to record a 4.00 ERA and a 25.30 strikeout percentage over the remaining course of the season.
