Spokesman for Alex Rodriguez says no deal with Miami Marlins

Ron Berkowitz, a spokesman for free agent Alex Rodriguez, told reporters on Monday that his client has no intention of playing for another team this season.

What It Means:

On Monday, ESPN's Jim Bowden reported that Rodriguez "will be a Miami Marlin," but now it doesn't seem like that's going to happen. Berkowitz was definitive with his statement saying, "I want to put all this talk to rest about Alex playing for any team this season. "It's not happening." Rodriguez officially became a free agent on Monday after being released by the New York Yankees, but it looks like the 41 year-old is going to retire. With no designated hitter in the National League, he would have to play first base with the Marlins, something he shied away from during his time with the Yankees.

Rodriguez may not have much left to offer from the plate regardless, as he slashed only .200/.247/.351 with a .258 wOBA -- his lowest since tallying 59 plate appearances during his first big league action in 1994 -- through 243 plate appearances on the season.
