David Wright (neck/back) won't take field for Mets until mid-March
New York Mets third baseman David Wright won't be ready to play the field until around mid-March, manager Terry Collins estimated on Tuesday.
Wright is coming back from neck surgery and also battling spinal stenosis in his back, so the Mets are going to ease him in as a designated hitter in the minors before seeing how he fares in the field. It remains to be seen whether or not Wright will be ready for Opening Day.
Wright was off to a solid start last season, posting a .344 wOBA in 164 plate appearances, paired with a .212 ISO, which would have been his highest mark since the 2010 season.
