Giants' Johnny Cueto expected to opt out of contract after the season
San Francisco Giants pitcher Johnny Cueto is expected to use his opt-out option at the end of the season, per Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.
He stands to make $84 million over the next four seasons if he doesn't opt out, and he stands to make more than that on the open market, so these reports come as little surprise. The 31-year-old is expected to listen to extension offers from the Giants, but Heyman reports that the team is unlikely to make any offers.
Cueto has struggled a bit this season, with a 4.42 ERA, 4.04 SIERA, 22.5% strikeout rate and 1.30 WHIP through 15 games.
