Chris Archer (forearm) targeting weekend return to Rays' rotation

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Chris Archer (forearm) could return to the club's rotation Saturday or Sunday at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox.

What It Means:

"No strict plan in place but I would like to pitch in Boston," Archer said Tuesday. "I don't think it would be too much because I would have 48 extra hours of rest. ... So that's what I'm gearing for. But if it doesn't happen, if I get an extra day or two, that's what it is." The 28-year-old right-hander was lifted from his last start on September 2 due to right forearm discomfort, but he avoided any major structural damage.

Archer has twirled a 3.76 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 30.0 strikeout percentage (K%) across 179 1/3 innings this season while going 9-8 in 29 starts. Assuming he avoids a stint on the disabled list, numberFire's models project Archer for a 3.30 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 25.3 K% in 19 innings for the remainder of the year.
