Red Sox still 'open' to signing J.D. Martinez

Per The Boston Globe's Pete Abraham, the Boston Red Sox remain "open" to signing free agent outfielder J.D. Martinez.

What It Means:

While the door remains open, Abraham notes that it isn't indefinite. In other words, the Red Sox are prepared to move on entirely if Martinez isn't open to signing with the team. Earlier reports had Boston offering the prized free agent five years and around $100 million.

Last year, Martinez ranked 7th among all hitters with a 3.43 nERD. He finished 3rd with 45 home runs on a .303 average and .438 wOBA.
