Blue Jays' Josh Donaldson expects to become free agent following 2018 season

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson said that he wants to focus on the season and that he expects to become a free agent heading into 2019.

What It Means:

According to The Athletic's John Lott, Donaldson said he and the Blue Jays have talked an extension but the two "don't see eye to eye" at this point. He added that talks could "ramp back up" at a later point. It's likely that he tests the market after the upcoming season, during which he'll play under a one-year, $23 million deal.

A year ago, Donaldson accounted for 33 home runs, 78 RBI and a .403 wOBA. He led all Blue Jays hitters with a 2.43 nERD.
