Joey Gallo to serve as Rangers' everyday first baseman in 2018
Texas Rangers manager Jeff Banister confirmed that first/third baseman Joey Gallo will serve as the team's everyday first baseman for the 2018 season.
Gallo was spread across third base and the outfield last year, but the Rangers want to have more consistency with where he's at defensively. "Right now, and the immediate prospect of what the team is, it's first base," Banister said. That could change if Adrian Beltre isn't healthy enough to play the field.
Last season, Gallo posted a .374 wOBA with a career-high 41 home runs and 80 RBI.
