Cardinals' Matt Carpenter (back) is playing in an intrasquad game Sunday
St. Louis Cardinals third/first baseman Matt Carpenter (back, shoulder) will play in an intrasquad game Sunday.
It's the first time Carpenter has played in simulated game action this spring, and if all goes well, he could make his Grapefruit League debut Tuesday as the Cards' DH. St. Louis will try and limit Carpenter's spring reps as much as possible though, as they manage his back and shoulder issues.
Our models project Carpenter to produce a .255 batting average over 601 plate appearances in 2018, with 23 home runs, 83 runs scored, and 77 RBI.
