Mets shut down David Wright (back, shoulder) for eight weeks
New York Mets third baseman David Wright will not participate in baseball activity for eight weeks due to continued issues with his shoulder and lower back.
This puts any possible return into the regular season in May, and it will also be approaching two years since Wright last appeared in a game in May of 2016. Wright is still owed $20 million in 2018, and $27 million over 2019 and 2020, and the Mets are covered for 75% of that total if Wright can't play.
Wright was off to a solid start in the 2016 season prior to neck surgery, posting a .344 wOBA in 164 plate appearances, paired with a .212 ISO, which would have been his highest mark since the 2010 season.
