Mariners release Ichiro Suzuki, will remain in front office role with team
The Seattle Mariners are releasing outfielder Ichiro Suzuki.
While the team says that they are releasing Ichiro, they will be transitioning him into a role with the team. His title will be Assistant to the Chairman and sounds like it will encompass a lot of his current duties as a role model within the organization. He will have played his final MLB game on Wednesday, going 0-for-3 with a walk against the Oakland A's. This should free up a little more time for Ben Gamel and Guillermo Heredia. The team purchased the contract of Erik Goeddel in his roster spot.
The surefire Hall of Fame player finishes his career with 3,089 hits at a .311 batting average. He was named the 2001 AL MVP and won 2 batting titles in 2001 and 2004.
