Yankees' Greg Bird (ankle) won't return this week
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday that a decision on whether to activate first baseman Greg Bird (ankle) will come "maybe a week from now."
Bird was rumored to be making a return later this week, but that doesn't seem to be the case. There is no need to rush Bird back, especially with the way Tyler Austin is hitting right now. Once Bird is activated, Neil Walker will likely see less playing time at first base, while Austin could take more turns in the outfield.
Our models project Bird for a .218 batting average with 10 homers, 31 runs scored, and 36 RBI over 274 plate appearances remaining this season.
