J.A. Happ

Phillies interested in Toronto's J.A. Happ

The Philadelphia Phillies are interested in Toronto Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ, per Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

What It Means:

The Phillies are busy in trade talks, as frontrunners for Baltimore's Manny Machado, but they're also looking to address pitching. The Jays' have been scouting the Phillies' minor league system, and with the 35-year-old Happ set to become a free agent at the end of the year, the Jays have plenty of incentive to move him.

Happ has a 4.29 ERA through 19 games this year, but his strong 3.62 skill-interactive ERA is on pace to be a career-best, while his 1.19 WHIP is the second-lowest of his career. If he were to stay in Toronto, numberFire's models project him for a 4.00 ERA and 1.24 WHIP over the remainder of the season.
