3 Daily Fantasy Basketball Players to Avoid on 1/1/18

DeMar DeRozan is usually a strong fantasy option, but he has a tough matchup tonight against the Bucks.

In daily fantasy basketball, finding players you want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.

You can find a ton of great information and research on guys you might want to include in your DFS NBA lineups, but what about guys you may want to lessen your exposure to, or even fade altogether?

Avoiding players whose matchups or situations aren't as great as they seem can often be just as important as finding the best targets. After all, it takes only one player to sink a lineup. Searching for the landmines could mean the difference between winning and losing your contests. Which players should we avoid tonight?

DeMar DeRozan, SG, Toronto Raptors

FanDuel Price: $8,100

DeMar DeRozan is coming off a big game against the Atlanta Hawks on Friday, but his opposition gets much tougher Monday as he faces the Milwaukee Bucks.

In DeRozan's previous matchups with Khris Middleton, the Toronto Raptors' shooting guard has struggled to find his rhythm. In 12 regular-season games against Middleton, DeRozan is shooting just 39.8% from the floor and averaging real-world 16.1 points per game.

With the Bucks holding shooting guards to just 0.77 FanDuel points per minute, DeRozan has a tough pathway to value on the first DFS slate of 2018.

Malcolm Brogdon, PG, Milwaukee Bucks

FanDuel Price: $5,400

Malcolm Brogdon's minutes have been trending downward over the last two games, and even though the Bucks will need his defense tonight against Kyle Lowry, he might have a tough time collecting fantasy points on the other end of the court.

Brogdon is averaging an impressive 25.8 FanDuel points per game over his last five, but our models are pretty low on him tonight, projecting him for only 22.0 FanDuel points. If Brogdon's minutes are still in the 20-to-25-minute range, it's going to be hard for him to pay off his salary.

Allen Crabbe, SF, Brooklyn Nets

FanDuel Price: $5,100

Allen Crabbe's minutes have also been in great flux, as well. He played 34 minutes Sunday evening in a loss to the Boston Celtics, and on the second night of a back-to-back, it's hard to see him breaking his recent slump.

Crabbe is shooting 7 for 27 over his last three games, and with the Orlando Magic holding small forwards to just 0.82 FanDuel points per minute, it's not the night to risk it with Crabbe.
