Pelicans to sign free agent Hollis Thompson

The New Orleans Pelicans are close to signing free agent guard/forward Hollis Thompson to a 10-day contract, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

What It Means:

New Orleans lacks depth in the backcourt and wings, following their splashy trade for forward/center DeMarcus Cousins, and they recently auditioned Thompson in addition to Mario Chalmers, Quinn Cook and Reggie Williams. He's not going to be a fantasy factor even if Thompson does crack the rotation.

In 31 games played this season with the Philadelphia 76ers, Thompson just started once and averaged 18.1 minutes played. He had per-game averages of 5.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 0.8 assists, with a 0.497 effective field goal rate -- the 65th-best rate among guards averaging at least 18 minutes per game.
