Hornets reportedly tab Spurs assistant James Borrego for head coaching job
The Charlotte Hornets are finalizing a deal with San Antonio Spurs assistant James Borrego to become the team's next head coach, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Borrego began his NBA coaching career with the Spurs under Gregg Popovich from 2003-2010 and then rejoined the team for the past three seasons, with trips to the New Orleans Hornets and Orlando Magic in between. He served as Orlando's interim head coach for the end of the 2014-15 season, going 10-20 before heading back to San Antonio. Boston Celtics assistant Jay Larranaga was also considered for the position.
The Hornets went 36-46 this season and finished 10th in the Eastern Conference.
