LeBron James declines 2018-19 player option with Cavaliers to become a free agent
Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James has declined his $35.6M player option for 2018-19 and is now a free agent.
This isn't a surprising move for James, but it does mean that a sign-and-trade is off the table, which could potentially benefit suitors with cap space like the Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers. James reportedly doesn't want to prolong the process, so we could see a decision as early as next week.
James is coming off another brilliant campaign, averaging 27.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 9.1 assists in the regular season.
