De'Anthony Melton joins Suns' backcourt in reported trade with Houston
The Phoenix Suns acquired rookie point guard De'Anthony Melton from the Houston Rockets, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Melton and Ryan Anderson were sent to the Suns for Brandon Knight and Marquese Chriss. It's potentially a huge boost for the second-round rookie, as he will be able to compete for the starting point guard job with Elie Okobo if Phoenix doesn't upgrade from the outside. Woj says the Suns' decision-makers are actively pursuing a "starting-caliber point guard" between now and the start of the season.
Melton averaged 8.3 points, 4.7 boards, 3.5 assists, 1.9 steals, 1.0 blocks, and 0.6 treys over 27.0 minutes in 36 games (25 starts) during his only year playing for the USC Trojans.
