Blackshear suffered the stress fracture in his right leg two months ago but has not healed sufficiently enough for there to be a proper timetable for his return to basketball activities. There still lies a small chance the sophomore will sit out the entire season with the injured leg. During his freshman season, Blackshear averaged nearly 20 minutes per game and was expected to take on a bigger role this season.

The Hokies are missing Blackshear's 9.3 rebounds per 40 minutes, which he averaged last year, as they rank 261 out of 351 Division I schools with an average of 34.8 rebounds per game.
