Is Rod Smith the Running Back Handcuff to Own in Dallas?

It seems we can't go a week without some new drama emerging in the NFL's ongoing case against Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott. We can't pretend to know when -- or even if -- Zeke will serve his six-game suspension, and unfortunately we don't even know which running back to own if he can't play.

Zeke's backup situation became even murkier Sunday as the Cowboys routed the San Francisco 49ers. After he trampled the 49ers defense for over 200 yards, it was Rod Smith that came in to close the game out -- not Alfred Morris or the often inactive Darren McFadden.

With the game completely out of reach for San Francisco, Smith came in and carried the rock 8 times for 61 rushing yards. He even drew an extra two targets in the passing game despite playing just 13 offensive snaps.

Smith's involvement doesn't make things any easier for those of us playing fantasy football. We didn't know for certain who would be Zeke's main backup before, and we definitely don't know now. However, Smith did get the nod on Sunday.

We can't say for certain who will be the back to own if Zeke is suspended, but Smith made a case for himself as a contender.
