5 NFL Stats to Know Through Week 5

On Monday night, Drew Brees became the NFL's all-time leading passer with 72,103 career passing yards. What other statistical nuggets stand out after Week 5 of the 2018 season?

Another week of action is in the books, and so Week 5 of the 2018 NFL season is consigned to the history books. It was another eventful week, filled with memorable and momentous events, and as such positively overflowing with interesting stats.

The Philadelphia Eagles became only the eighth defending Super Bowl champions to fall to 2-3 after their loss at home to the Minnesota Vikings. Of the previous seven, only one team survived to reach the postseason. In that same game, Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen became the first player since the merger to record at least 100 receiving yards in the first 5 games of a season.

The high-flying Los Angeles Rams overcame a feisty Seattle Seahawks side to win 33-31, registering their fifth game of 30-plus points in as many games. Only four other teams have managed this feat in the Super Bowl era, and three of those four made it all the way to the Super Bowl.

The only other undefeated squad in the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs, beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 30-14 to join the Rams at 5-0. They have achieved this despite seeing their defense torn to pieces on a weekly basis. They have already allowed three 400-yard passers in 2018, tying the record for the most such games since the second World War.

Even though the Green Bay Packers fell in a 31-23 loss to their division rivals Detroit Lions, there was some small consolation for Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He passed for 442 yards, and in doing so he eclipsed 40,000 passing yards in his career. He reached the milestone in his 154th game, the fewest of any player to reach the milestone. Rodgers is the 20th quarterback in NFL history to amass 40,000 passing yards.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the other key stats -- both traditional as well as our advanced statistics -- to have emerged from Week 5.
