Fantasy Football: 4 Players You Can Drop After Week 8

Doug Baldwin, WR, Seattle Seahawks

Cutting ties with a big-name player is hard, but Doug Baldwin is just not getting it done in 2018. He told us before the season he wouldn't be 100% at all this year, and he missed several weeks at the start of the campaign. The unfortunate reality is that he's hurt your fantasy team in three of the four games you could have started him. He was doing less damage to your team when you couldn't start him.

The problem isn't necessarily Baldwin himself; it's the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks look totally different in 2018 than they have in past seasons. They've managed to put together a solid defense despite losing some big names in the offseason, but more importantly, they've accomplished what offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer set out to do: they're running the football.

Per JJ Zachariason's Week 8 Report, they were the only team in the league with a pass-to-run ratio under 1.0, meaning they've called more running plays than passing plays so far this season. Week 8 was more of the same. Russell Wilson attempted just 17 passes in their win over the Detroit Lions and hasn't attempted more than 26 in any game since Week 2. They've been having success with this approach, too, so we shouldn't expect them to overhaul that game plan any time soon.

With passing game numbers this low, we can't expect any members of the Seahawks' passing game to thrive on a consistent basis. Tyler Lockett and David Moore have been getting it done the past few weeks through splash plays and unsustainable touchdowns, but they're averaging 15.8 and 20.1 yards per reception respectively to Baldwin's 11.4. Baldwin isn't even the best fantasy option on his own team, with each player handling a roughly equal target share over the last three weeks.

Baldwin's past production and early-round draft capital this year in fantasy drafts make it hard to part ways with him, but if your fantasy team is hurting you just might have to -- either via trade or cutting him.
