Elijah McGuire Is a Legit Workhorse

The New York Jets might have a fantasy star on their hands. Elijah McGuire has put together some serious fantasy performances since taking over the lead back role in New York, and if the Jets are smart about it, he should keep that role in 2019.

The second-year runner popped back in his rookie season, absolutely demolishing that memorable Jacksonville Jaguars defense for over 100 yards from scrimmage on just 12 touches. He struggled with injuries to start this season, but since Isaiah Crowell landed on the injured reserve a few weeks ago, McGuire has been flashing again.

Over the last two weeks, he's had at least 14 carries and 3 catches in each game. His yardage totals haven't been as impressive on a lackluster Jets offense, but that kind of workload is hard to come by in this NFL. Plus, it doesn't hurt that he's scored three touchdowns over the last two weeks.

There's been quite a bit to like about this Jets' offense towards the end of the season. Sam Darnold, since coming back from injury, has been playing at a much higher level than he was at the beginning of the year, and Robby Anderson and Chris Herndon appear to be developing into real weapons for him.

If the Jets' offense takes a step forward in 2019, keep an eye on McGuire. It's not a lock he'll enter next season as the clear-cut lead back -- the Jets do have a ton of cap space -- but if he's projected to see good volume, he could have a big season.
