Cam Newton (shoulder) reportedly shut down for Panthers' final two games, Taylor Heinicke to start
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (shoulder) will be shut down for the rest of the season, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Newton has been battling a shoulder injury for weeks and the Panthers' playoff hopes are essentially shot, so he will be held out over the final two games. Taylor Heinicke is expected to make his first career start in Week 16 versus the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
Newton put up 21.1 FanDuel points over 14 games this season. He averaged 242.5 passing yards per game with 24 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, adding another 488 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns.
