Christian McCaffrey could be held out of Panthers' finale
Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey may be rested in Week 17 versus the New Orleans Saints, per comments from head coach Ron Rivera.
Rivera said the Panthers need "to be smart" and suggested the season finale could serve as an ideal time "to evaluate" younger players. McCaffrey racked up 178 yards on Sunday and broke Matt Forte's all-time single-season record for receptions by a running back, joining Forte and LaDainian Tomlinson as the only players in NFL history to record 100 receptions and 1,000 rushing yards in the same season. Cameron Artis-Payne would likely start for Carolina if McCaffrey is given Week 17 off.
McCaffrey is averaging 21.8 FanDuel points per game this season, with 1,080 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns on 215 carries and 106 receptions (123 targets) for 845 yards and 6 touchdowns.
