Panthers place Taylor Heinicke (elbow) on injured reserve
Carolina Panthers quarterback Taylor Heinicke (elbow) has been placed on injured reserve and will not return this season.
Heinicke played through the injury in the Panthers' Week 16 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, but he will be held out for Sunday's season finale. Cam Newton (shoulder) is expected to sit again, so it will be either undrafted rookie Kyle Allen or 2014 sixth-round pick Garrett Gilbert, who was signed in a corresponding roster move.
Heinicke scored 15.3 FanDuel points in his lone start. He completed 35-of-57 passes (61.4 percent) for 320 yards (5.6 per attempt) with 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions this season.
