Browns promoting Freddie Kitchens to head coach
The Cleveland Browns are hiring Freddie Kitchens as head coach, reports Chris Mortensen of ESPN.
Baker Mayfield and the Browns' offense improved dramatically after Kitchens took over play-calling duties in Week 9, so it makes sense for Cleveland to try and build off of their second-half success by maintaining the status quo. Kitchens, 44, had never been an offensive coordinator or head coach at any level before the mid-season promotion.
The Browns averaged 23.8 points per game under Kitchens, while Baker Mayfield turned in 19 touchdowns and 8 interceptions on 8.6 yards per attempt over those eight contests.
