Browns hold Jerome Ford out of Hall of Fame game Thursday

The Cleveland Browns announced that running back Jerome Ford will not play in Thursday's Hall of Fame game against the New York Jets.

What It Means:

It looks like Ford is on the cusp of locking down the Browns' RB2 role behind Nick Chubb for the upcoming season, with he and Chubb being the only two backs the team announced as inactive for the warmup contest. It remains to be seen if he'll operate as more than just a handcuff-type back behind Chubb this season, but he could earn fantasy-relevance if he is able to absorb former teammate Kareem Hunt's previous workload.

numberFire's early projections have Chubb dominating the Browns' running back opportunities this season and finishing as the RB2 overall in fantasy, leaving Ford behind as the RB70. However, Ford's fortunes could change at the drop of a hat, and he'll be a backup to stash in most fantasy leagues at the very least this season.
