Tom Savage will start Texans' first preseason game
Houston Texans quarterback Tom Savage will start the team's preseason opener.
Savage has taken every single first-team snap for the Texans and is reportedly outplaying rookie Deshaun Watson by a wide margin, so this was expected. Head coach Bill O'Brien said Watson and third-stringer Brandon Weeden will also see playing time versus the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday night.
numberFire's algorithms project Savage for 325.0 passing attempts, good for 2,060.9 passing yards, 11.84 touchdowns, and 9.6 interceptions. Without even accounting for the likelihood that he eventually loses the starting job, that ranks him only 32nd among fantasy quarterbacks in our models.
