Titans move on from Mike Mularkey after failing to agree to extension

The Tennessee Titans fired head coach Mike Mularkey.

What It Means:

Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk says the two sides discussed "extending [Mularkey's] future" in Tennessee, but that "it became evident that we saw different paths to achieve greater success." The team reportedly offered Mularkey an extension but it appears he was unwilling to acquiesce to the terms that came with the new deal. With the position now open, New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is considered one of the frontrunners to take over as the Titans' next head coach.

In two full years as head coach of the Titans, Mularkey went a combined 18-14 in the regular season, going 9-7 both years while picking up one playoff berth (1-1).
