Cowboys expected to franchise DeMarcus Lawrence if unable to reach long-term deal
The Dallas Cowboys are expected to place the franchise tag on defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence if the two sides are unable to agree on a long-term contract.
The Cowboys have finally landed a productive pass-rusher, so this comes as no surprise. The 25-year-old Lawrence is set to become an unrestricted free agent after earning just $1.75 million in 2017. Franchising him would come at a cost of $17 million for the 2018 season.
Lawrence finished in a tie for second with 14.5 sacks. He added 36 tackles, 4 forced fumbles and 1 pass defense, and was rated the 3rd-best edge rusher by Pro Football Focus.
