Jay Gruden stands behind Kirk Cousins as Redskins' starter
Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden continued to support quarterback Kirk Cousins, even after another two-interception game in Sunday's loss to the New York Jets.
Cousins has thrown multiple interceptions in four of Washington's six games. Gruden stated: "Overall you hate to pin this game on Kirk. I know he could have played better, but we had no running game whatsoever and Kirk’s not in that stage of his career right now, nor is anybody on our roster, to carry our team throwing the ball as much as we had to."
Cousins is the 14th-ranked quarterback in Total Net Expected Points (NEP) per play through five weeks. His 0.15 per-play Passing NEP ranks 15th among quarterbacks with at least 50 drop backs through Week 5.
