NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Wednesday 1/31/18

John Carlson has a nice power-play matchup against the Flyers. Who else should you target tonight in NHL DFS?

A good chunk of you probably already play daily fantasy football, and I'd be willing to bet a significant portion have also tried out daily fantasy basketball and baseball. But hockey? Hockey?

It's time to give it a try over on FanDuel.com because it's a ton of fun. And our analysis and projections can help you win.

To help, take a look at some goalies, high-priced skaters, and lower-priced players to target for today's slate.

Goalie to Target

Frederik Andersen ($8,200): Andersen's Toronto Maple Leafs have a massive 3.7-goal total right now, so it looks like he shouldn't have trouble getting some goal support. He has seen at least 30 shots in 12 of his last 14 starts, and shot volume should not be a problem against this New York Islanders team. Andersen is reasonably priced on FanDuel and is the biggest favorite on the board right now. In tournaments or cash games, he's a solid play.

High-Priced Skaters

Auston Matthews ($7,800): Matthews has the highest upside on the slate against the Islanders, whose defensive struggles have been well documented. His offensive game is awesome right now, posting a 16.6 individual Corsi For per 60 minutes and 13.4 individual Scoring Chances For per 60 minutes in January. No matter which line he faces, he should create a ton of shots and chances for himself and his linemates. He's a lock in cash games and a very scary fade in tournaments.

John Carlson ($5,700): Carlson is arguably the top defenseman on this short slate, but may even see lower ownership than Brent Burns. He has a 14.2 individual Corsi For per 60 minutes in January and quarterbacks the top power-play unit for the Washington Capitals with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom. The Philadelphia Flyers have a 75.3% penalty kill on the season, so Carlson has many ways he can get on the board tonight.

Value Skaters

Anthony Beauvillier ($4,100): Beauvillier is simply too cheap on FanDuel, even on a back-to-back. He should get the Matthews line, which should be a high-paced back and forth matchup. With five points in his last four games, you can take a shot on Beauvillier if you're not going to Andersen in net. His 18.1 individual Corsi For per 60 minutes is among the best of any player on the slate in January and will play on the second power-play unit.

Lars Eller ($4,500): Eller is a great way to save some salary at low ownership in tournaments tonight. He has an 18.1 individual Corsi For per 60 minutes and slate-leading 14.5 individual High-Danger Chances For per 60 minutes in January, so he's been close. While the results have been solid -- tallying six points in his last eight games -- Eller hasn't had a multi-point game in that time, so his ownership should be very low in tournaments. He plays on the second power play and makes for a great pivot off the top Washington Capitals skaters.
