FanDuel Premier League Matches to Target in Matchweek 25

James Ward-Prowse and Southampton take on Brighton in a match in which both sides desperately need points, making it one to target.

With many Premier League teams in FA Cup action over the weekend, league play resumes in the middle of the week. FanDuel's main slate will be a seven-game contest on Wednesday.

Matchweek 25
Wednesday, January 31st
Bournemouth at Chelsea
Burnley at Newcastle
Brighton at Southampton
Leicester at Everton
West Brom at Manchester City
Manchester United at Tottenham
Watford at Stoke

Two of Wednesday's matches have an over/under of more than 2.5 goals and, to no one's surprise, one of those matches includes Manchester City. Chelsea and City are the only teams that are heavy favorites, with Southampton currently holding a slight edge over Brighton.

Despite the lower over/under, the match at St. Mary's Stadium is where we start.

Southampton vs. Brighton

Southampton are winless in their last 11 Premier League matches, and Brighton cannot seem to score on a weekday, which is part of the reason these teams are near the bottom of the table. The teams are separated by just one point with Southampton currently in the relegation zone. They both need a win and must take points from games against others sides in the bottom 10 in the standings.

Southampton did win their FA Cup match over the weekend despite things getting testy against Watford. Jack Stevens scored the only goal of the game as the Saints try to build some momentum.

New club-record signing Guido Carrillo from Monaco is in line for a start after being on the bench for the match against Watford. Carrillo scored eight goals in all competitions for his former club. His familiarity with the Southampton coaching staff made the choice to move to the Saints an easy one.

Carrillo should start out front for Southampton as they look for a much-needed win. James Ward-Prowse, Dusan Tadic, and Sofiane Boufal are expected to be in a three-man midfield just behind Carrillo with an attacking mindset. Brighton have conceded at least two goals in their last three matches, so there is no reason for Southampton to hold back.

If Brighton wants to keep up, they will need to attack down their right side. Both Ryan Bertrand and Sam McQueen are dealing with injuries, so there will be a lot of juggling on the Southampton back line. That means Solly March and Bruno will likely see the ball at their feet quite often in this match.

Pascal Gross is still the danger man for Brighton. He has been directly involved in 53% of Brighton's Premier League goals. Gross will play behind the Brighton striker, who seems unlikely to be new singing Jurgen Locadia. He scored nine league goals for PSV Eindhoven this season.

The other appeal in this match is that no one is priced above $8,500, which is the cost for Tadic. The majority of those expected to play will cost $7,000 or less.

Everton vs. Leicester

The prices are a little higher in this fixture of teams separated by six points in the top half of the table. However, there is a history of goals between these two with at least four goals scored in three of the last five Premier League matches between Everton and Leicester.

This match will be a milestone for Everton manager Sam Allardyce. It will be his 1,000 match in charge of an English league club in all competitions. If narratives play into your FanDuel lineup creation, that might be the ultimate. It also helps that Everton had the chance to rest this past weekend since they were already out of the FA Cup.

One of Gylfi Sigurdsson or Wayne Rooney will start on the bench as Allardyce has stated that they cannot play together. Whoever does start will likely play behind new Everton man Cenk Tosun. Regardless, either Rooney or Sigurdsson will have a good chance to make an impact as Everton have scored at least two goals in seven of their last eight matches at home against Leicester.

Leicester, though, have been able to score on the road against Everton. They have tallied at least two goals in their last six away matches in all competitions at Goodison Park. The Foxes are also coming off a five-goal performance on Saturday in the FA Cup.

The usual suspects should be providing the offense for Leicester. Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez have been consistently productive this season, and Marc Albrighton and Wilfred Ndidi have been great accent pieces to the Leicester attack. They will have to rely on offense and possibly try to keep possession more than usual with their normal center-back pairing still hobbled.

This match sets up as an open affair, and it should be a fantasy-friendly clash.
