FanDuel Women's World Cup Daily Fantasy Helper: Wednesday 6/12/19

The Women's World Cup is here, and FanDuel is offering daily fantasy contests. The Wednesday main slate will start at noon EST and will feature the day's final two matches.

FanDuel has altered its soccer format for the Women's World Cup for the multi-match offerings, and it's important to know how those changes impact things. The single-match slates, however, are the same format as usual.

Per FanDuel Sportsbook, Germany (-110) and France (-330) are fairly comfortable favorites on this slate, though they should both get a much tougher test than what they saw in last week's openers.

Let's look at some players across different price points who can shine on this slate.

Forwards/Midfielders

Eugénie Le Sommer, France ($24)

France looked the part of a World Cup contender in a 4-0 thrashing of South Korea last week, putting eight shots on goal while keeping South Korea from getting a shot on target. France played a 4-4-2 formation (kind of a 4-2-2-2) in that one, with Le Sommer out wide on the left behind a front two. She netted the opening goal, added a late assist and was a force most of the match -- amassing an eye-popping 45.6 FanDuel points. Norway will be a much tougher challenge, but France is again a large favorite, listed at -330 on FanDuel Sportsbook, which implies 76.7% win odds. Le Sommer should be integral to a lot of what France does going forward.

Alexandra Popp ($18), Germany

The Spain-Germany clash should act as a swing game on this slate since it's a fairly level matchup and one in which ownership may be spread out over the two teams. Both squads have plenty of attacking talent and are coming off wins in their opening outings. If you grab a couple of players from one of these teams while fading the other side and you get it right, it could propel you up the leaderboard. Germany (-110) is favored, carrying implied win odds of 52.4%. Popp started as a single striker in their 1-0 win over China, and with Dzsenifer Marozsan likely out, Popp should be relied on even more heavily, though she will miss Marozsan's play-making chops.

Kadi Diani, France ($12)

In the win over South Korea, Diani started alongside Gaëtane Thiney in a two-person forward line. While she didn't score a goal or notch an assist, she played all 90 minutes and created a pair of chances. If Diani continues to start in a forward spot for one of the world's top teams, odds are she will get some goal involvements at some point, and it's easy to like any cheap starting attacker on one of the tourney favorites.

Isabell Herlovsen, Norway ($12)

Norway cruised past Nigeria, 3-0, last week, and Herlovsen started up top in a two-striker formation. She didn't tally a goal or an assist, but she was the lone Norway player to record multiple goals in the friendly run-up to this World Cup. Given that several of her teammates had more fantasy points than her in the opener along with the fact that Norway is an underdog to France, Herlovsen could go under-owned on Wednesday, setting her up to be a nice contrarian choice.

Defenders

Maren Mjelde ($16) and Maria Thorisdóttir ($18), Norway

These two started at the heart of Norway's defense in their opener, and both should be high-floor options against France as the Norwegians deal with the potent attack of the hosts. The clean-sheet bonus, which they got in the win over Nigeria, is rather unlikely, but the expected volume of defensive actions helps compensate for that. Mjelde has some skill taking set-pieces, making her a unicorn at the defender position.

Amel Majri, France ($16)

France's left-back, Majri is good going forward and should be able to do that often in a match in which the French are comfy favorites. She had 22.5 FanDuel points in her first match, notching an assist and creating three chances. She's got as much DFS upside as any defender in this World Cup.

Goalies

Sarah Bouhaddi, France ($16)

Bouhaddi has the best win odds on the slate, and her clean-sheet chances aren't too shabby, either. The only negative is her salary, but said salary might scare away some people. She totaled 17.0 FanDuel points in the opener and wasn't asked to make even a single save. Her ceiling is a little higher in the date with Norway since they'll likely put at least a few shots on goal. You really should try to pay up for her if you can.

Sandra Paños, Spain ($12)

Paños is the cheapest expected starter, and while a win is unlikely -- just 26.3% implied win odds for the Spanish -- she should be fairly busy. Spain allowed five total shots, two of which were on target, versus South Africa in their opening match, and Germany are a much better team than South Africa. Paños can help you pay up for the attackers you want, though her floor is a tad scary.
